Kierra Dunn worked as a dedicated special education and behavioral support paraprofessional in Channelview ISD for several years. Here she made and left her mark on the entire Channelview community by leaving a lasting influence in such a short time. She will forever be remembered as an advocate for students, teachers, and other paraprofessionals. Through this scholarship her work will live on and continue to provide meaningful impacts in special education.

Kierra Dunn’s S.P.E.D. Scholarship is built on compassion, understanding, and a genuine desire to make a difference. We want to support educators who make a long-lasting difference.
I am an ESL and Inclusion teacher for 5th grade Language Arts and Social Studies. I have been teaching for 23 years, 19 of them in Channelview ISD.
Every teacher is familiar with the challenges that accompany an inclusion classroom. Unfortunately, far fewer educators fully recognize the profound impact of having dedicated and effective paraprofessional support—individuals whose role is to assist not only teachers, but students as well. I was among the fortunate few to have Kierra as a classroom support professional. She consistently approached even the most challenging students with calm confidence, including those who might otherwise have spent much of their school day in the principal’s office.
Although Kierra was formally assigned to work with specific students, she quickly became a trusted and valued presence for the entire class. Students frequently requested time in her area during breaks or asked to spend recess with her, making her presence an effective and positive behavioral incentive. Despite her demanding schedule, she made time to connect with students, including coaching and mentoring them in volleyball during and after school. Her naturally calm demeanor created a safe and supportive environment where students felt comfortable expressing themselves and working through frustrations. As a result, Kierra became an invaluable resource in addressing classroom management challenges.
